Hot on the heels of Senator Bernie Sanders’ interview with Bill Nye “the Science Guy,” Fox News’ Tucker Carlson also hosted the scientific television personality to help promote Nye’s new Netflix show “Bill Nye Saves the World.”
But while Sanders and Nye talked about the scientific facts and settled science behind climate science, Carlson not unexpectedly attempted to debunk and disagree with most of what Nye had to say while offering no real facts in exchange.
Nye attempted to discuss the same scientific information with which he is so familiar, and which Carlson viewed with open hostility.
“The evidence for climate change is overwhelming. So we’re looking for an explanation for why you guys are having so much trouble with this.”
Carlson countered by saying that he wanted a clear correlation – in “degrees” – between the changes in climate that we are observing and the human activity causing it.
“So the word ‘degree’ is a word that you chose,” Nye patiently explained. “But the speed that climate change is happening is caused by humans. Instead of happening on time scales of millions of years, or let’s say, 15,000 years, it’s happening on a time scale of decades. And now years.”
The notoriously close-minded and partisan Carlson remarked,
“I’m open-minded, you are not.”
Nye isn’t one to allow himself to be bullied, and its easy to see why his patience is a little short with political commentators claiming to know more about the science of our changing earth than himself.
