As gas prices quickly approach the five-dollar mark in parts of the country, American auto manufacturers are scrambling to get fuel-efficient vehicles out to consumers. These companies have been sitting on hybrid and electric vehicle technology for decades, but decided to continue to push gas guzzling SUVs on the American public until the current crisis forced them to re-think their strategy.
