On Sunday, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) told Fox News’ Chris Wallace that if President Obama did not take immediate military action, militants in Iraq and Syria would launch an attack against the US mainland.

Graham said,

“I think of an American city in flames because of the terrorists’ ability to operate in Syria and Iraq. The director of National Security, the FBI director, the director of Homeland Security has [sic] said the isis presence in syria where 100s of americans and 1000s of European fighters have gone represents a direct threat to the US and now their enclave in iraq.”

Graham continued, “there’s no political reconciliation in Baghdad gonna protect the American homeland. That has to be a commander in chief with a strategy and a vision.”

When Wallace asked the senator what the US is accomplishing with the current targeted air strikes against the Islamic State, Graham’s answer was “a bad news story.”

Wallace then asked if Graham was saying that we should go back to war in Iraq. Graham said,

“Iraq and Syria combined represent a direct threat to our homeland … If he does not go on the offensive against ISIS, ISL — whatever you want to call these guys — they are coming here! This is just not about Baghdad, this is just not about Syria, this is about our homeland.”
