Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teenager nearly killed by the Taliban for her determination to go to school – something the Taliban had outlawed for girls – has become the youngest winner of a Nobel Prize.
Yousafzai, who received the Nobel Peace Prize for her advocacy efforts for human rights, especially education rights for women and children, shared the Nobel Prize with Kailash Satyarthi, and Indian man who has been fighting to end child slavery and exploitative child labor since the 1980s.
“I decided that I would speak up. Through my story I want to tell other children all around the world they should stand up for their rights,” said Yousafzai. “They should not wait for someone else. This award is especially for them, it gives them courage.”
