“You’ve been taking a lot of shots at my job, I’ve decided to take a shot at yours,” said President Obama, before taking over for Stephen Colbert to host The Colbert Report in the segment called “The Word” (renamed for Obama “The Decree”). “How hard can this be? I am just going to say whatever you were about to say.”
The President then went on to run through an ironic hit that tapped on points like, “As you know, I, Stephen Colbert, have never cared for our President. That guy is so arrogant. I bet he talks about himself in the third person.”
After a break, Obama came on for a two part interview where he discussed the economy, his enjoyment of the job as President, and the midterm elections.

“The economy is growing at a faster rate than it has for years,” said Colbert. “Why didn’t you fix the economy before the midterm elections? I would have done it before the midterms so people were happy when they voted.”
Obama answered, “Actually the economy has been on a pretty good run.” He then discussed a number of economic indicators that show a recovering economy.

Colbert joked that the president has worked some wonders with employment.
“I’ll give it to you. You’ve employed a lot of people, mostly as secretary of defense,” he said.
