Tesla Motors Inc. will relaunch its Roadster model with new battery technology that will allow the vehicle to get 66 percent more miles per charge, reported Reuters.

This upgrade in battery technology will allow the Roadster model travel two-thirds more distance on a single charge, about 400 miles. According to a blog post on the company’s webpage, the car will be tested by driving from San Francisco to Los Angeles early next year.

Reuters reported that the Tesla Roadster was the company’s first car and production of that model was halted three years ago so the auto company could concentrate greater focus on the “Tesla Model S” sedan.

Alongside news of Tesla relaunching the Roadster with an updated battery, the company also alluded to the installation of updated battery technology in the upcoming SUV “Model X” and the “Model 3” models.

These upcoming models are expected to roll out in 2015 and 2017.
