Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) has been connected to yet another hate group, further adding to his sordid past of associating with bigots and racists, reported Addicting Info.
Scalise was recently connected to the Family Research Network, a neutrally-named “science” group known for gay- and lesbian-bashing and for promoting anti-gay pseudo-science. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, the FRN has built its reputation on “‘defaming gays and lesbians’ through false claims, targeted bullying campaigns and pushing anti-gay junk science.”
Scalise is connected to the FRN by way of his close, personal friend, Tony Perkins, the head of the FRN. Perkins has gone down on record as saying things about gay people like “To me, that is the height of hatred, to be silent when we know there are individuals that are engaged in activity, behavior, and an agenda that will destroy them and our nation.”
This group, like other hate groups, have a huge supporter in Scalise. He was once outed for speaking at a white supremacist rally in New Orleans in 2002.
Scalise seems to have some personally-held, anti-equal rights beliefs. For instance, he staunchly opposed a motion in the state of Louisiana to make Martin Luther King Jr. Day a state holiday.
It’s always baffling to think about how people like Scalise make it into national politics. He represents everything that could keep America in the dark ages of civil equality.
