When Patricia Arquette won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film Boyhood, she used her platform and fame to deliver a positive message, reported Addicting Info. Here’s what Arquette said during her acceptance speech:
To every woman who gave birth, to every taxpayer and citizen of this nation, we have fought for everybody else’s equal rights. It is our time to have wage equality once and for all and equal rights for women in the United States of America.
Her call for equal pay rights for women was met with applause at the Oscar’s, but conservatives like washed-up actress-turned-Fox News-contributor Stacey Dash lamented the statement. Watch the video below.
Dash was appalled? That’s a really strong word to describe your reaction to someone with differing politics. Dash then gets all nostalgic about the Academy Awards of the past, the Academy Awards that she was never part of because her acting career was an appalling garbage fire.
I mean, first of all, Patricia Arquette needs to do her history. In 1963, Kennedy passed an equal pay law. It’s still in effect. I didn’t get the memo that I didn’t have any rights. And then everyone else … I agree with Mr. Trump. I miss the glamor, the elegance, the class, the majesty of the Oscars. You know, I’m an actress. I’ve dreamed about it my whole life, and it just seems to be going away.
First of all, when have we known companies to flawlessly abide by federal laws? They’ll take any chance they can to underpay their workers. And that includes women. Secondly, Donald Trump. Nothing else really needs to be said.
Dash’s most notable work was Clueless, a Gen-X teen movie. Albeit, Clueless was funny for what it was, a teenage-screwball comedy. Dash can have that. But this isn’t exactly Ben Hur or The Godfather we’re talking about, it’s Clueless. Other than that, several small movies and some direct-to-video films are all Dash has. Therefore, Stacey should stop talking like she’s Elizabeth Taylor.
What all this boils down to is a Hollywood washout criticizing the film industry’s biggest gala from the outside looking in. The fact remains that women are grossly underpaid and don’t enjoy the same compensation as men, even in “liberal” Hollywood.
