It was the perfect plan. The getaway would take care of itself. He would have gotten away with it, if it hadn’t been for that pesky governor keeping the lawnmower topping out at 7-mph.
Earlier this month, Gursham D. Gillet thought he was about to execute the perfect crime when he decided to steal a riding lawnmower from a local Wal-Mart by driving away on it.
Gillet was brash. Security footage from the store showed Gillet entering the store and filling up the lawnmower before cutting the fence that the machine was behind. He then drove away on it, reported the Kearny Hub.
When stopped and questioned by officers about the incident, Gillet’s response was incoherent, according to the officer that made the stop. The officer advised Gillet that he was in possession of a stolen lawnmower and observed that Gillet wore a backpack containing bolt cutters.
The lawnmower was worth nearly $1000 and Gillet is currently being held on a $2,500 bond. His preliminary hearing takes place today around noon. If he is convicted, he may face a felony charge with a maximum sentence of up to five years in prison.
