After Donald Trump announced his candidacy for president yesterday, there was a massive reaction from liberals and conservatives alike. Oddly, many of the best Trump criticisms have come from the Republicans.
Regular Fox News contributor Charles Krauthammer appeared on the Special Report with Bret Baier and discussed Trump’s presidential candidacy. Krauthammer noted how Trump is obviously running for media exposure and ratings and that Trump has “great showmanship” but nothing more.
“Look, this is a campaign that’s run on know-nothing xenophobia,” said Krauthammer. “It will damage the party.”
Krauthammer was speaking about Trump’s claim that all Mexican immigrants drug-addled rapists.
“[Mexico is] sending people that have lots of problems, and they are bringing those problems to us,” said Trump during his announcement. “They are bringing drugs, and bringing crime, and their rapists. . . . Some I assume are good people.”
Trump’s racist assessment of Mexican immigration didn’t sit well with liberals and conservatives alike.
“But you know, look, you say, can you take him seriously?” Krauthammer continued. “Can you really take seriously a candidate who says ‘Mexico is not our friend?’”
Krauthammer and Trump have traded blows recently. Trump called Krauthammer a “totally overrated clown” last week on Twitter. While conservatives are lamenting Trump’s candidacy as a potential blemish on the Republican Party, liberal TV personalities are thankful for it.
Daily Show host Jon Stewart sees Trump’s candidacy as a comedic goldmine. He has already given Trump the name “Fuckface von Clownstick” and thanked him for “making [his] last six weeks [his] best six weeks.”
Nightly Show host Larry Wilmore said Trump’s announcement was “a gift from the comedy gods.”
“How did you know, comedy gods?” said Wilmore. “I’ve got a show, and Trump’s running for president. Good news for me, horrible news for our writers – because all of our jokes are officially writing themselves.”
Conservatives lament Trump’s candidacy, and liberals relish it. It’s 100 percent certain that Trump’s campaign will be an outright dumpster fire. The debates can’t get here soon enough.
