There is increased likelihood that Vice President Joe Biden will announce his candidacy for the 2016 presidential race, reported The Hill. A Biden campaign will add an entirely new dynamic to the already-anomalous Democratic race.
Before Biden announces, reports say he “is weighing multiple political, financial, and family considerations before making a final decision.” Officials close to Biden provided some context to the growing rumors that Biden will make a run in 2016.
“The vice president has not made a decision about his political future,” said Biden’s Press Secretary Kendra Barkoff. “Anyone speculating that he has made a decision is wrong.” Despite Biden’s camp saying there is no definite decision, there have been some moves that indicate a possible run.
For instance, the White House announced on Monday that Biden hired a new communications director, one with campaign experience. He also met with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) over the weekend for a discussion of which the contents remained private. Current Democratic candidate Martin O’Malley even encouraged Biden to make a run.
“I have a great deal of respect for Vice President Biden,” said O’Malley. “He’s a very, very good and decent man. It would be nice to have at least one more lifelong Democrat in the race.”
Will Biden throw his hat in the ring? All signs point to yes. However, the general public and the press will just have to wait for something official. But the question remains: how would a Biden campaign affect the current Democratic race?
