To conclude his visit to the United States, Pope Francis met with prisoners at the Curran Fromhold Correctional Facility. He talked with them about the issues of hope and redemption.

“I am here as a pastor, but above all as a brother, to share your situation and to make it my own,” said Pope Francis.

Pope Francis called on the prison system to reassume its goal of rehabilitating inmates, rather than simply housing them for a time.

“It is painful when we see prison systems which are not concerned to care for wounds, to soothe pain, to offer new possibilities,” said the pope.
