Edward Snowden has discovered that being in an American prison is better than living in Russia. Snowden has officially requested to return to the United States and be sent to prison. Interestingly, the United States is not eager for him to return. In fact, despite his repeated requests for a plea deal, the U.S. has not responded. It appears the U.S. government doesn’t believe he is of much value or harm to the U.S., and thinks he is being punished more by living in Russia than a U.S. prison.
Snowden told the BBC during a recent interview that he has “volunteered to go to prison with the [U.S.] government many times,” but has not received a formal plea-deal offer.
