Despite pro-2nd Amendment gun nuts saying differently, most Americans still want the federal government to pass stricter, nationwide laws regarding the sale of firearms.
Fifty-five percent of Americans agree that there should be stricter laws regarding firearm sales, eight percent more than Americans who wanted the laws in 2014. The number of Americans who wanted less strict laws decreased slightly, but those who thought the laws should remain the same decreased greatly.
Naturally, respondents who identified as Democrats had the widest margin of people who wanted stricter gun sale laws, 77 percent. Only 27 percent of Republican-identified respondents wanted stricter gun laws. Interestingly, 72 percent of Americans don’t support banning handguns.
The Republican narrative relies on scaring conservatives into believing that the Democrats want to take all our guns. That’s not true; we just want stricter laws regulating the purchase of firearms.
