On Saturday, the hashtag #MuslimsAreNotTerrorists was trending on Twitter as many Muslims voiced their opinion that, although terrible acts may be perpetrated in the name of their religion, their religion does not make them perpetrators of such terrible acts. The tweets are part of a continuing discussion to change the mainstream or conservative perception of Islam as a violent and intolerant religion.
Undoubtedly, conservative fear mongers will attempt to use the attacks in Paris last week as evidence that they are right to be suspicious of Muslims.
