A recent study has concluded that when individuals take acetaminophen (A.K.A. Tylenol), they can experience a loss of empathy for other people’s pain as well.

Empathy is an important characteristic for humans to have as it encourages societal bonding and group care, but those who take pain pills may find that their concern for others dulls just as their own pain fades.

It’s an interesting side effect of the pain management medication, and raises quite a few questions about drugs’ effect on the human brain.
