Though the primary season seems to be winding down with one party having already chosen and the leading candidate of the other party declaring her own contest over despite evidence to the contrary, Senator Bernie Sanders says that he intends to hold one more primary debate ahead of the important California primary.
Senator Sanders said that opponent Hillary Clinton had agreed to a debate ahead of California, but that recently she has been ignoring the calls to meet up.
“In terms of the debates, for example, we’re still waiting–Secretary Clinton agreed way back when to do a debate in California in May. We are hoping that Democratic National Committee will ask her to keep her word and allow that debate to go forward.”
Of course, Clinton is at an advantage if she refuses to debate, as it will limit further exposure to Sanders by California voters. Sanders tends to do much better once people become familiar with him, while those who don’t see him are much more likely to go by the “Clinton” name recognition to make their selection.
Sanders says that he intends to stay in the race up until the convention, so he is eager to debate Clinton once more before this final handful of primary races.
As it was with the New York debate, Clinton’s reluctance shows more than just campaign strategy; it shows her disregard for the will of the people. More exposure and more discussion is Democratic fuel, and we should be trying to feed the electorate as much as they will take.
