If it was intended to be a joke, it was most certainly not funny.
Two members of the Marine Corp are being investigated after posting a threatening photo on a Facebook group which indicated that they had plans to perform a mass shooting at a gay night club just like the Sunday attack on Pulse in Orlando.
The photo features a bespeckled man in military gear pointing a weapon toward the camera with the caption,
“Coming to a gay bar near you!”
In the comment chain under the photo, the poster wrote, “Too soon?” a possible indication that the photo was not an honest threat but rather a failed attempt at joking about the serious matter.
The person who posed in the photo and the person who posted it onto the Facebook group are apparently two separate people whom are both being investigated by the Marine Corp.
The Corp says that they take the incident very seriously but cannot comment further at this time.
“The Marine Corps does not tolerate discrimination based on sexual orientation, race, gender or religion. This type of behavior and mindset will not be allowed, and it is not consistent with the core values of honor, courage and commitment that are demonstrated by the vast majority of Marines on a daily basis.”
Why these men thought this photo was at all funny or appropriate is a mystery, but at this point with the culture of fear surrounding the LGBT community, no threat is too banal and any threats must be investigated.
