When you think of America’s dark history concerning racism and the systemic suppression of minority individuals, the most horrific action against African Americans is likely the widespread enslavement of their kind, right?

Apparently, slavery pales in comparison to the horrors of electing President Obama.

Former congressman, radio host, and wingnut Joe Walsh declared on Twitter on Sunday that the single largest act of racism in America was the election of Obama, because Walsh claimed he was only elected based on his race.

Even IF it were true that Obama was elected solely based on his race, how can anyone genuinely believe that makes the act the most racist one in American history?

F.Y.I. I’ll fight not to write the following statements in all-caps, but it’s really hard.

America brought slaves they captured in Africa to American soil to work them so hard that they often died, restricted every element of their lives, beat them and could murder them at will, raped them, and exposed them to generations of unspeakable horror.

THEN when we finally decided to do away with owning human beings, America still forced black Americans to live in squalor and excluded them from most parts of society. When they finally were able to obtain their rights, white America fought back violently, lynching some and hosing others.

NOW, a half black man has served two terms as president, a triumph considered incredibly progressive and positive to most of America, but because Mr. Walsh thinks that Obama may have gotten the leg-up due to his racial heritage, his presidency is apparently the worst thing that’s ever happened.

If I didn’t know my history, I might suggest that this accusation by Walsh was the worst single act of racism in American history – but I’m not a f*cking idiot.
