While we are all familiar with the common trope of the suited politician joyfully kissing babies for a photo op, what we are less familiar with is the way Donald Trump handles babies – apparently the same way he handles everything else.

During a rally event on Tuesday morning, a crying baby caught Trump’s attention. At first, he seemed pleased at the infant’s wailing, calling the baby – and it’s sound – “beautiful.”

“Don’t worry about that baby. I love babies. Don’t worry about it. I love babies. I hear that baby crying, I like it. What a baby. What a beautiful baby. Don’t worry, don’t worry. The mom’s running around like—don’t worry about it, you know. It’s young and beautiful and healthy and that’s what we want.”

But like many other issues he has faced, Trump quickly flipped-flopped on the baby crying issue, telling the mother to take it out of the room, and mocking her in the process.

“Actually, I was only kidding, you can get the baby out of here. That’s all right. Don’t worry. I, I think she really believed me that I love having a baby crying while I’m speaking. That’s OK. People don’t understand. That’s OK.”

Considering that we know Trump has refused to take care of his own children when they were small, saying that he would find it outrageous if any of his wives had asked him to change a single diaper, this shouldn’t come as a surprise.

But if we can’t trust Trump on whether or not he is okay with crying babies, what can we trust?

Watch.
