There has never before been two presidential candidates as universally despised as Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Democrats may be thankful that Trump has the highest unfavorability ratings in recent history, but even Clinton has never had numbers to be proud of.

Since her tenure as Secretary of State, surveys have collected information on how Americans view Clinton, but a recent poll reveals that she is now the least popular she has ever been – at least since polling began.

Out of the entire United States, just 41 percent of voters have a favorable view of Clinton. 56 percent reported an unfavorable view of the Democratic nominee.

As recently as 3 years ago, Americans viewed Clinton generally favorable, and only 26 percent found her outright unfavorable. Elections tend to dim the view of individuals, but such a steep drop is quite an anti-accomplishment.

If this were any other election, in any other year, these numbers would certainly doom the candidate. But when you’re up against a hateful demagogue who has broken every rule in the book, having over half the country hate you is really something you can work with.

Never before has an election truly embodied the phrase “lesser of two evils,” and at least we can rest easy knowing that the American people are acutely aware of just how terrible their choice is.
