Thanks to the YMCA, Americans are facing one less roadblock to getting to the ballot box on November 8 this year.
At many YMCA locations across the country on November 8, a special session of free childcare will be provided for parents who need to get to the polls to cast their vote.
According to The Huffington Post:
“The organization is calling the initiative Zoe’s Kids Day Out, which is part of a larger effort by the YMCA called Zoe For President, a mission to elect a girl who is 1 year old today as president in 2064. A reminder: There’s an opportunity to elect a female president this year, too.”
YMCA president and CEO Kevin Washington said that they were hoping to empower parents to participate in the election process without the additional hindrance of bringing children along to a tedious event or finding child care.
“The Y’s hope is that Zoe’s Kids Day Out initiative enables those parents and caregivers to exercise their right to vote, and ensures children can spend their time in a safe, nurturing environment.”
So if you felt like you might have to miss out on participating in the most important election recent history, you have no excuses left.
To learn if your local Y is participating (some Ys are offering Election Day child care for free, some for a small nominal fee or donation), find your local Y by visiting the organization’s website and giving them a call directly.
Also, remember that most states now allow early voting for weeks before the election. With just a week until November 8, you should still have plenty of time to hunt down your early voting location and GO VOTE.
