When House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was re-elected to her position last week, many responded to the news with happiness while asking the rest of us, “why are you unhappy? Pelosi is good at her job!” But what Pelosi said this week in response to the wants and needs of her own party proves exactly why we are so unhappy with the retention of her position.
Speaking on “Face the Nation” Sunday, Pelosi responded to a question about her party’s wish for a new direction by denying that Democrats nationwide wanted any change at all.
“Well, I don’t think people want a new direction,” said Pelosi.
Of course, judging by the continued Democratic leadership, we can’t blame her for thinking that the status quo is really all we want.
But as she continued to respond, the bigger picture of the Democratic delusion became clear: Pelosi and others like her think that the only thing the party did wrong was not convey their message well enough to the working class.
What?
“What we want is a better connection of our message to working families in our country, and that clearly in the election showed that that message wasn’t coming through.”
Does she really thing that is all it is? That the Democratic megaphone wasn’t big enough? The truth is that the Democrats are a party of massive wealth and elitism, and without cutting out a bit of corruption and establishment politics, they may not win an election for quite a while.
As horrible of a decision as it was, many in the U.S. saw in Trump something different – something new – and without giving them any alternative other than the old and corrupt, they went with the new.
So no, Pelosi, don’t pretend as if the Democrat’s only mistake was not shouting their message loudly enough. The American people knew the message – they didn’t like the speaker.
Watch.
