In response to the ongoing rumors about the conspiracy theory called #Pizzagate, CNN host Jake Tapper attempted to privately contact Trump crony Michael Flynn’s son Michael G Flynn about the rumors he continued to spread.

In a text conversation with the younger Flynn, Tapper pointed out the near tragedy that occurred thanks to the #Pizzagate story, noting that people could have died – and might still if the conspiracists didn’t stop spreading baseless speculation as fact.

Said Tapper:

“Does someone have to die before you take this shit seriously[?] Spreading this nonsense is dangerous.”

Tapper noted that Flynn, who has more than 12 thousand followers online, had a responsibility to stop sharing dangerous information without proof.

“It’s not the site of a satanic pedophilia cult it is a fucking pizzeria. . . Your tweet is wildly irresponsible. Listen to me. You are going to get someone killed. Maybe an innocent child. For what??????”

In response to Tapper’s messages, Flynn shared Tapper’s private comments on Twitter, attempting to ridicule him publicly. Tapper then replied again, saying that he doesn’t care about his own reputation but is merely trying to save lives and prevent any more falsehood.

It is clear that neither Flynn, nor his father, intend to back down on their conspiracy beliefs. Even as one attacker has escalated the fake news into real bullets, Flynn and many like him will not take a step back and realize that what they’re peddling is little more than baseless accusations of a preposterous nature.

We thank Tapper for standing up to Flynn, but wish he would do so more publicly next time.
