Third Parties Just Made the 2020 Election More Interesting

If you are like me, you were underwhelmed with the choices that you were presented with in the ballot box in November. I’m not fond of corporate influence in our electoral process, so choosing between a billionaire and a puppet of Goldman-Sachs was not an appealing option for me. Unfortunately, the third-party candidates did little to captivate the public. Gary Johnson spoke in idealistic, often abstract terms, while Jill Stein’s pseudo-science claims didn’t resonate. The result was a paltry 3.27% of the popular vote for Johnson, with Stein barely cracking the 1% mark. However, their failure in the election...

Making Veterans the Priority is No Longer Monopolized by Conservatives

“If you can drive a military truck in combat, with hazardous cargo, at night, through a sandstorm, then you can drive a commercial truck on an interstate. If you can dock or anchor a 10,000 ton warship under extreme stress, you can do the same thing for a small commercial ship. We spend hundreds of millions to train our service members to do highly skilled jobs, and they are the best at what they do. But too many still struggle to transition into civilian jobs because they don’t have the right certifications and licenses – even when they’re being...

Trump Got Sweden Wrong, But That Doesn’t Mean Their Problems Aren’t Real

Donald Trump’s now infamous Sweden comment has made waves across the media. In his Florida “campaign rally” Trump riled up the crowd talking about “last night in Sweden,” appearing to point to a terror-related incident. Of course, this was news to the Swedish government, as they were not aware of any terrorist goings-on in their country. This, predictably, was welcome ammunition from Trump’s detractors, even as he revealed that he was referring to a Fox News report on the rise of crime in Sweden that is linked to immigrants. Late night hosts like Stephen Colbert hilariously roasted Trump’s remarks...

Pruitt confirmed; $640 Billion Industry Threatened

Today, the Senate voted 52-46 to confirm Scott Pruitt as the head of the Environmental Protection Agency. As Oklahoma’s Attorney General, Pruitt made a career of suing the EPA, going as far as to call for its dissolution. In addition to being harshly opposed by environmental groups, Pruitt has found a new enemy: those who hunt and fish. The outdoor recreation industry employees over 6 million people and accounts for $640 billion in annual spending, according to a report by the Outdoor Industry Association. Compare that to the coal mining industry that Trump’s administration is so eager to protect,...

Six Trump Staffers Fail Background Checks; Escorted from White House

Donald Trump’s staff took another hit this week as White House security were forced to escort six aides out of the building, because they failed background checks. Among the ousted staffers was Caroline Wiles, Trump’s director of scheduling. Caroline is also the daughter of Susan Wiles, who ran Trump’s Florida campaign and previously served as Florida Governor Rick Scott’s chief of staff. Despite not being allowed to work in the White House for security reasons, Caroline will now work under the administration in the Treasury Department. That’s reassuring. You may remember that Trump’s chief of staff, Reince Priebus, brushed aside the...
