It’s Becoming More and More Clear that the NRA is the Real Force Behind Banning the Confederate Flag, Rather than Banning Guns

Yesterday, we reported that NRA lapdog Mitch McConnell suddenly (and conveniently) had an attack of conscience over an 80-year-old statue of Confederate States of America President Jefferson Davis. McConnell is calling for its removal from Kentucky’s state capitol building. Why is McConnell doing it? Because it’s exactly what the NRA must have right now to prevent gun control measures; and McConnell is not the only one singing the NRA’s song. In neighboring Tennessee, U.S. Representative Jim Cooper, a Democrat representing the Nashville area, is calling for the removal of another prominent figure of the Confederacy, Lieutenant General Nathan Bedford Forrest....

Justice Scalia Fails in His Attempt to Deny a Widow Healthcare, and He is Really Mad

Justice Antonin Scalia became utterly disgusted by his fellow Justices when they refused to deny healthcare coverage a Texas woman who lost her husband to cancer and her oldest son in a motor vehicle collision. Ashton Munoz, who runs Hearts For The Homeless Shelter in State College, Pennsylvania, drove over to the park. Eventually, the two located the owner of...

It’s Not About a Flag. It’s About Guns. The NRA Wants You to Focus on the Flag.

Many people recall that in the immediate wake of the attacks of September 11, 2001, virtually the entire world came together for a golden moment. Here at home we were briefly united – and folks were a little kinder and compassionate to each other for awhile. Even this author had started to think of those who died in at the World Trade Center that day as martyrs to world peace – and had believed that one day they would be honored as such. It didn’t last long. Within weeks, the Bush Administration and its handmaidens in the corporate media...
