Mr. “Tough On Crime” Jeff Sessions Not So Tough When the Criminal is a Corporation

Attorney General Jefferson Beauregard Sessions, III has been busy beating his chest, vowing to fill already overcrowded U.S. private, for-profit prisons (a dubious industry to which he has indirect ties) – mostly with small-time drug offenders and people of color. He has rescinded all of the Obama Administration’s directives giving prosecutors more leeway to push for more lenient sentences, particularly for low-level drug offenders. Sessions, who by rights should be removed from office and disbarred, is demanding the most draconian punishments for natural people for the slightest misdemeanors – but for corporate “people” involved in murder and grand larceny,...

They Keep On Coming: Fox News Faces More Discrimination Lawsuits

This week, three more plaintiffs filed lawsuits against Fox News, alleging racial discrimination and gender-based harassment, putting yet more nails in the coffin of Rupert Murchoch’s right-wing propaganda machine. It’s the gift that keeps on giving. One of the plaintiffs, Kathleen Lee, accuses radio anchorman Ron Flatter of “unrelenting sexual harassment,” and mocking her disability, calling her an “invalid.” When she took her complaint to higher levels, she was told to “deal with it.” Another plaintiff, Naima Farrow, was fired three days after telling her supervisor that she was pregnant. “The Donald” just can’t seem to keep his mouth shut. Last week, bragging to Russian officials about how he gets “great intel,” Trump shared highly classified information that had come from Israeli intelligence sources. This week, it was revealed that Trump had boasted about deploying two submarines to the coast of North Korea to his good buddy, Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte, at a time that tensions on the peninsula were reaching a boiling point. It is patently obvious that Trump is as untrustworthy as he is dishonest. In response, Israel, up to this point America’s closest Middle East ally,...

Carrier Jobs Trump “Saved” Are Going to Mexico Anyway

Remember how, during his campaign, Trump threatened the Carrier Corporation with a 35% tariff on its products if it outsourced its manufacturing to Mexico? Then, it turned out that the parent company, United Technologies had actually been offered a bribe in the form of a $7 million tax cut which had been negotiated by then-governor Mike Pence. Now, despite Trump’s “promises” to save U.S. jobs, more than 600 Carrier workers in Indianapolis are being kicked to the curb as the employer they served loyally and diligently for years moves those jobs to a facility in Monterrey, Mexico. It’s less than half...
