Hillary Attacks Sanders on Common-Sense Gun Control Stance

As the primary race between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders tightens in the days before the Iowa primary, the former – already losing on the health care debate – is grasping for another hot-button issue on which to attack her rival. This past weekend, it was gun control. To hear Hillary tell it, Bernie is little more than another “tool” for the gun lobby – but as is the case with health care, she is either failing to understand the real issues, or she’s deliberately engaging in obfuscations. Appearing with George Stephanopoulos on ABC This Week on Sunday, Democratic...

Everybody Hates Ted: How The GOP Is Rejecting Their Newest Frontrunner

Donald Trump may be a thorn in the side of Establishment Republicans, but their real enemy is Ted Cruz. This was recently affirmed by Iowa’s GOP governor, Terry Branstad, who has basically told the Republican voters of his state that they can support any candidate they choose – as long as its not Ted. Cruz’ poll numbers started going up among Iowans in October. He decided at that time that his rising popularity with voters in the all-important primary state meant that Conservative voters were starting to gather around him. Our Planet on Fire: 2015 the Hottest Year on Record

According to NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), 2015 was the hottest year on record since such data was first recorded 136 years ago. The previous record was set in 2014 – indicating that 2016 will be another record-breaking year.  Some of this can be attributed to El Niño, a cycle of warm water in the central Pacific that occurs approximately every 2-5 years. However, the real culprit is global climate change, driven by human activity. Since 1880, the Earth’s average surface temperature has risen by one full degree Centigrade (1.8 degrees Fahrenheit). Most of this...

Not Only in America: Mass Shooting at University in Pakistan Leaves 20 Dead, 23 Wounded

On Wednesday, four gunmen attacked Bacha Khan University in Charsadda, Pakistan killing eighteen students and two professors and wounding almost two dozen others before they were gunned down by Pakistani troops. It wasn’t the first time. Little over a year ago, a similar mass shooting of a school in Peshawar left 145 people dead. 132 of the victims had been children. It is a grim reminder that such massacres are hardly unique to the United States. However, the motive behind the mass shootings in Pakistan is different: they have been carried out by hard-right Islamic fundamentalists who are fighting...

Cruz’s Dark History: Fought to Keep Innocent Man Incarcerated

If GOP Clown Car passenger Ted Cruz had anything to say about it, American democracy would be replaced by a harsh, patriarchal, merciless Old Testament style theocracy. Like the magistrates of 17th-Century New England, he has a reputation for administering punishment under the law with an iron fist. If that seems difficult to believe, consider that as solicitor general for the State of Texas, Cruz went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court in order to keep a young man in prison for 16 years – for shoplifting a $20 calculator. There were serious doubts about whether...
