Rep. Alan Grayson on the GOP: Its New Motto Should be ‘We’re Monochromatic!’

It’s no secret that the GOP isn’t exactly the most diverse party, but just exactly how white and Christian the Republican members of Congress actually are is shocking. According to The Washington Post, Congress as a whole is 80 percent male and 80 percent white. The Senate is even less diverse, with 94 white members out of 100. And, as Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) pointed out in an op-ed piece for The Huffington Post, “For a five-month period that ends this week, every single elected Republican in Congress was a white Christian.” “Eric Cantor is Jewish. Nashville Police Chief Defends Protesters and Police in Amazing Response to Critics

Tensions between police departments and those they have sworn to protect have risen across the country recently, not just in New York City and Ferguson, Missouri. Protests over the lack of justice in the Eric Garner and Michael Brown cases have been taking place in numerous cities, including Nashville, Tennessee. That protesters were mostly allowed to carry out their acts of civil disobedience without retaliation from police drew criticism from at least one of the city’s pro-police resident. “Instead...

Senior CIA officer Alfreda Frances Bikowsky has reportedly been described in several articles by large, credible sources as a linchpin figure in the CIA torture program. However, she was unidentified, but The Intercept has named her as being that instrumental figure in the CIA torture program. After being called a “key apologist,” “The Unidentified Queen of Torture,” noted as “the model for the lead character in ‘Zero Dark Thirty,’” and identified in having a central role in lying to Congress about the CIA’s torture methods, Bikowsky appears to be the main liar. Last week, according to The Intercept, “NBC...

Largest Tar Sands Pipeline into US Shut Down after Spilling Nearly 60,000 Gallons of Oil

Enbridge Inc. reported yesterday that the Line 4 pipeline at the Regina Terminal in Saskatchewan, Canada had been “shut down and isolated” after it spilled over 1,300 barrels, approximately 56,700 gallons, of oil on Tuesday, Reuters reported. A spokesman for the company, Graham White, said in an email that the spill “originated at a flange or valve within the terminal, so there were no problems with the pipeline itself.” White said that could mean the problem would be “relatively” easy to fix, but had no set time frame for when the pipeline would resume operations. Canada’s National Energy Board...
