Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski has announced his resignation “in the coming weeks” today. Genachowski’s resignation ends a dramatic term in which he sought the expansion and reform of broadband Internet service by freeing extra airspace to be available to mobile phone companies from major television providers. Genachowski’s decision to step down from the FCC has been expected for months, and as of yet, no one has been named to replace the chairman. A Christian radio host said yesterday that “God guided” creators of the History Channel’s “The Bible” to make their Satan character on the series resemble the president. Stories have been cropping up this week about the resemblance between the character and President Obama after Glenn Beck recently tweeted about the imagined likeness. Both the network and producer for “The Bible,” Mark Burnett, have called the allegations “utter nonsense” and noted that the actor has played that character before. The Montana state senate gave the initial thumbs up to state lawmakers Wednesday on a bill that would allow permitted residents to salvage and process roadkill for human consumption. The bill received a 33-15 vote in its favor, and is in its final stages before it is passed. The National Rifle Association is gearing up for an international showdown after the association opposed the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty, which would monitor and slow the international trade and import of firearms into conflict zones. The treaty requires countries to monitor all imported firearms and filter out those that are more likely to be used in organized crimes or terrorist attacks.
