Tommy Chong Tells Fox News that Stupidity is Opposing Obamacare Based on ‘Rumors and Lies’

Well-known actor and medical marijuana activist Tommy Chong was a guest on Fox News’ Outnumbered yesterday, and told the hosts that Jonathan Gruber’s comments about the “stupidity” of the American voter had become the network’s new Benghazi. Chong also brought up Mitt Romney’s infamous 47 percent comment, but the hosts demanded he “stay on topic.” When asked why Gruber had said that the Obama administration relied on the stupidity of the American voter to pass the Affordable Care Act, Chong responded, “I think you have to define what stupidity means. If you are opposing universal health care based on...

Republicans Don’t Understand Social Media

The internet is the digital West Wild, a saloon full of reprobates ready to act when someone of ill repute creates the opportunity. Republican House Speaker John Boehner is that illy-reputed person, and he made himself vulnerable on Twitter, reported Talking Points Memo. He sent a tweet that linked to his “5 Points for Resetting America’s Economic Foundation.” However, he left the five points blank, making himself vulnerable for the A-Bomb of trolling that followed. The 113th Congress Is One Giant Recess

Congress is out on its five-week, summer recess. Of course, they don’t actually deserve that break because what the hell has Congress accomplished since 2012? Absolutely nothing. Adding to the ridiculousness, Congress is required to vacation during August. As Will Hurst with AlterNet notes, Congress must take off work for the month of August as per the Legislative Reorganization Act of 1970. Take a vacation, the law says so. How does someone, as Hurst puts it, take a vacation from nothing? If Congress’s below-20 percent approval rating is any indication, the 113th Congress has been on vacation since day...

Boehner’s Obama Lawsuit Has Been Approved

House Republicans have authorized the lawsuit filed by House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) against President Barack Obama. Boehner is suing the president for failure to fully implement the Affordable Care Act, a law which has had its implementation interrupted by Republican obstructionism time and again. Why engage is such political theater? For starters, Congress has a 14 percent approval rating. Republicans want to show that they’ve actually done something, hence the lawsuit. This isn’t specifically about Obama, establishment GOPers just want to please their Tea Party overlords. This lawsuit is a show for GOP donors, which have been giving...

Deep in the Tell-Tale Heart of the Texas GOP

This post originally appeared at BillMoyers.com and is reposted with permission. Imagine the official presentation of a worldview concocted by conspiracy theorists and an assortment of cranks and grumpy people. Conjure a document written by scribes possessed of poison pens soaked in the inkpots of Ayn Rand and the Brothers Grimm, caught in the grip of a dark dystopian fantasy of dragons and specters, in which everyone’s wrong but thee and me and we’re not sure of thee. No, this is not some “Game of Thrones” spinoff. Ladies and gentlemen, we give you the official 2014 platform of the...
